On 22nd June, the 2002 "Elgar Explorer" season got underway (the 1st June tour having been cancelled due to the failure of 5029 "Nunney Castle). It had been originally planned to have 60009 haul the down leg of the tour to Worcester and 34027 "Taw Valley" would haul the up leg, but 34027's overhaul wasn't finished in time, so "Number 9" did both legs. The change of motive power from 5029 on this tour had always been planned; this was not a result of the failure that saw the June tour cancelled.
